Walter Dugas

ST. MARTINVILLE - Services for Walter Quincy John Dugas, 25, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church with the Rev. Austin Leger and the Rev. Keith DeRouen officiating. Interment will be in St. Michaels Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday with rosaries to be recited at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday. The funeral home will remain open all night.

A native and resident of St. Martinville, Mr. Dugas died Friday, April 23, 2004, in St. Martinville.

He was a 1998 graduate of St. Martinville Senior High and attended St. Benedict's Seminary in Covington for a year while studying for the priesthood. Mr. Dugas then went to De La Salle Christian Brothers in Lafayette to assist with the teaching of special students. He was a lifelong member of St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church, where he was an altar server, active in Youth Group, taught catechism and counseled troubled youths. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1276 and the Legion of Mary.

Mr. Dugas is survived by his parents, John Bobby Dugas and Linda Faye Dautreuil Dugas of St. Martinville; two sisters, Laverne Ann Dugas Kimble of Krotz Springs and Chantal Anne Dugas of St. Martinville; two godchildren, Alfred Joseph Hubbard and Quincy John Dugas(his nephew) and nephew Andrew Jude Crochet; and his paternal grandmother, Louella Trahan Dugas.

He is also survived by aunts and uncles on his father's side, Earline Dugas and her husband, Alton Bonin, Huey Dugas and his wife, Hope, L.J. Dugas and his wife, Janie, Ned Dugas and his wife, Elaine, Terry Dugas Dupuis and her husband, August, Vickie Dugas Duplechien and her husband, Shanny, Louella Dugas Blanchard and her husband, Durphy, and Joy Dugas Thibodeaux ; and aunts and uncles on his mother's side, Dwight Dautreuil and his wife, Elda Ella, Tib Dixmae Doucet and her husband, Nolan, Diana Mae Dautreuil Romero, Hazel Dautreuil, Robert Paul Dautreuil, Lusrita Dautreuil Martin and her husband, Herbert, and Vickie Ann Dautreuil Walker and her husband, Bobby.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, James Dugas Jr., three uncles, James Dugas Jr. and his wife, Therese, Ward Dugas; and Eldon Dautreuil; and his maternal grandparents, Roy and Electa Dautreuil.

Pallbearers will be Ryan, Derrick and Jacob Albert, Keith Cormier, Kyle Bernis and David Romero.

Evangeline Funeral Homes of St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements.
