Nana is personally excited for her namesake, Carol Elizabeth Amos. Please arrive at the stadium early and cheer for Elizabeth Amos at 6:25 to receive recognition on being named West Virginia’s US Lacrosse All-American in 2023-24 When you see her in the stands tell her that Nana is proud of her. Bob Rosier, class of 1964, will return to Fairmont for a special presentation to Fairmont State. Joseph Rosier began as principal of Fairmont Normal School in 1915 and retired as president of Fairmont State College in 1945. He was responsible for the move to the new campus on Locust Avenue. Known as Papa Joe to Bob Rosier and President Joseph Rosier to the educational community the ceremony will occur from 2- 3:30 at the Folklife Center on Squibb Wilson Boulevard on November 8, 2024. Just take a right across from the Erickson Alumni Center and before the iconic establishment of McAteer.’s. FYI: they close at 3 so if you want a bite before the activity plan to go before. Sports fans have been saying his name for decades—Duvall/Rosier Field honors former President Joseph A. Rosier and Harold S “Deacon” Duvall who coached the football team to an NAIA Championship in 1967. Items to be donated include:
FSHS Queen’s Reception: Family, friends, and community were invited to meet the court and enjoy snacks and beverages on Friday, September 28 from 4:45-5:20 in the FSHS Media Center (formerly senior court). The court then participated in a parade to the stadium for the football game and presentation of the court.

This week, Fairmont Senior High School became the first school in Marion County to enable the second phase of its security system upgrade through a new weapon detection system.
The initial game for girls’ soccer was a tie with Weir after a last-second shot.
The boys’ soccer beat Weir 6-0 and the JV won with an identical score.
The teams recently competed in their final game of the season We’ll post final stats in the next newsletter for all fall sports.
Football Game #2 - the Polar Bears faced Robert C. Byrd in what is known as the "Pepperoni Roll Bowl". The Bears rolled to a 56-0 victory.

Congratulations to Claire Young and Audrina Pallotta on their finish at the Girls State Golf Tournament. Claire shot 112 finishing 52nd and Audrina shot a 117 to finish 65th out of 137 girls.
9/20 The Fairmont Senior Golf Team picked up 2 wins early in the season over Lincoln (194) and North Marion (211) with a team score of (174)at Clarksburg Cc today. The qualifying scores were Tristan Wolford (42), Blake Straight (42), Carson Hamilton (44) and Tyler Huffman (46).
The Fairmont Senior Golf season came to an end as they finished 6th in the region 1-AAA golf tournament with a team score of (249). The qualifying scores from today were Tristan Wolford (80), Liam Shepherd (83), and Carson Hamilton (86).

Sunday evening. October 27, from 6-8 the Fairmont Senior High School LSIC (Local School Improvement Council) sponsored the 3rd Annual Trick-or-Treat with the Polar Bears at East-West Stadium.
Thanks to Corporal Tim Morris, from the WV State Police, for bringing the CSI van to visit Mrs. Bright’s Forensic classes today and providing an excellent lesson on crime scene investigation.
OBITUARIES
“We are but a moment's sunlight.”
Nancy K. Bennett Jones, 85, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, October 25, 2024, at her home with family by her side. Born January 14, 1939, in Fairmont WVa, Nancy was the daughter of the late Mack D. Bennett and Pearle C. Bennett. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward C. Jones III of Fairmont.
Nancy was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Fairmont, where she served as an elder and dedicated herself to the Sunshine Committee. She was also a proud member of the PEO Sisterhood, Chapter R of Fairmont.
She attended Fairmont Senior High School and went on to study at West Virginia University and Fairmont State University, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma (KKG) and Gamma Chi Chi (GCC) sororities. Nancy was actively involved in campus life and played lead roles in several musicals at Fairmont State.
Nancy dedicated much of her career to working at the Jones Department Store and later at the tax assessor’s office in Fairmont. She will be remembered as a loyal friend to all who knew her and as someone who made a lasting impact on those around her.
She is survived by her brother, Mack Bennett, and his wife Michele of Fort Myers, FL; a nephew, Richard Jeffrey Bennett, and his wife Elizabeth of Washington, NC; and a niece, Catherine Bennett Redding of Richmond, VA.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to First Presbyterian Church, 301 Jackson St., Fairmont, WV 26554, or The Marion County Humane Society, Fairmont, WV 26554.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont. In accordance with Nancy’s wishes, cremation services will occur. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.fordfuneralhomes.com.
Allison Noel “Auntie” Osborne Tomasek
December 13, 1975 - September 8, 2024
The world lost a one-of-a-kind broad on Sunday, September 8, 2024. Allison Noel “Auntie” Osborne Tomasek was taken from us after a valiant fight against Covid-19. Although Covid was the victor, it certainly had a fight on its hands as Allison was determined to beat it. She is reunited in Heaven with her grandparents, beloved pets, and most importantly her angel baby Miller Gracen Tomasek.
She leaves behind her husband Jeffrey Tomasek that she fell deeply in love with over a clogged toilet. If you knew Allison, then no explanation needed. Also left mourning her loss are her parents Butch and Emily Osborne, brother and sister-in-law Daniel and Michelle Osborne, and her favorite niece and nephew Amelia and Wyatt Osborne. All of which are deeply saddened, but grateful that her passing brought Allison peace, health, and happiness.
Allison wanted the world to know that she had a degree in criminal justice with a Masters in Marital and Family Counseling and worked as an addiction counselor, an advocate for those with autism, and by placing children in foster care. Allison also practiced what she preached by being a foster parent herself along with Jeff. She was an avid animal lover and, like most of us pet owners, preferred the company of her dogs and cats. She was a Christian by faith and used giving as a love language. Even in passing, Allison wanted to gift her organs to bring new life to someone in need.
Look, as her brother, I only have 500 words or less to describe Allison in an obituary. 500 words to show my appreciation for her and how awful it is that she was taken from us so soon. 500 words for a life hard lived, but full of love and laughter. It can’t be done in 500 words. So I’ll settle for 13: if time is a thief and if life’s a bitch, then death is a motherfrigger.
The family requests donations made in her honor to the Marion County Humane Society in lieu of flowers.
We love you Allison and when it's all our time to be reunited, you better be ready for a true Osborne Experience.
Final arrangements are being handled by Domico’s funeral home.
Cynthia “Cindi” Allen Nixon, 73, of Timmonsville, SC, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. She was born in Harrisburg, WV, the daughter of the late Sue Ann Alt Allen and Keith Erwin Allen. Cindi was a professor and Associate Dean of Education at Francis Marion University. She was a member of St. Catherine's Episcopal Church. Cindi enjoyed camping, horseback riding and educating future teachers. She was an avid animal lover.
Surviving is her husband, Michael “Mike” Lee Nixon; daughter, Ressa Nixon; son, Ricky Nixon; a brother, Keith Erwin "Chip" Allen II and a niece, Abby Allen.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 31, 2024 at Cain Calcutt Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 10:00-11:00 AM just prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
David 'Dave' Linger Nickolich, 88 passed away on Friday, October 18th, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on January 19, 1936 in Fairmont, a son of the late Mitchell K. and Virginia L. Nickolich
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary H. (Adams) Nickolich, and his children; Cindy Nickolich Blake and her husband Jamie Blake, Chet Nickolich and his wife Clovis 'Coke' Townsend Nickolich and Cherie Nickolich Atha and her husband Mike Atha; five grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews.
Dave was a Master Builder for 55 years. His work is proudly displayed through-out Marion, Monongahela and Harrison County. Dave had a keen eye for detail, making him a sought-after builder. His work lives on in the homes, churches and businesses he built. He never met a stranger; always making everyone feel loved and welcomed.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by three brothers; Edward, Franz and Robert Nickolich and two sisters; Stella Ocheltree and Nancy Collins.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. There will be no public services. A Celebration of Life will be held for Dave at a later date. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.fordfuneralhomes.com.
Mary Margaret Jenkins Smith, 90, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024 at Barclay House of Aiken SC. Mary Margaret was born in Fairmont, West Virginia, the only daughter of the late Robert N. and Margaret Leonard Jenkins. She was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and West Virginia University where she was an active member of Delta Gamma Sorority. Upon graduation with a degree in Elementary Education, she married the love of her life, Jack H. Smith, who graduated from West Virginia University School of Pharmacy. They were happily married 60 years until his death in April 2016. She loved working with children and taught kindergarten and first grade in Fairmont, West Virginia for 25 years. Mary Margaret was a member of the Junior League of Fairmont, Delta Kappa Gamma Education Honorary, and PEO. She enjoyed gardening, collecting antiques, reading, and spoiling her grandchildren and great-granddaughters. Mary Margaret was a Deacon and an Elder at the First United Presbyterian Church in Fairmont, West Virginia, and at South Aiken Presbyterian Church in Aiken
Mary Margaret is survived by her daughters, Suzanne Smith-Fox (Timothy) of Charleston, South Carolina and Margaret Ellen Smith Hamman (Gary) of Aiken grandchildren, Robert Timothy Fox (Laura) of Kingsville, Maryland, Brenton Andrew Fox (Sarah) of Charleston, South Carolina, Abigail Smith Hamman Campbell (Brian) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Elizabeth Anne Hamman of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, and 2 great-granddaughters, Charlotte Ann Fox and Grace Amelia Fox of Kingsville, Maryland.
Memorial services for Mary Margaret Jenkins Smith will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, October 21, 2024, at South Aiken Presbyterian Church.
Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to South Aiken Presbyterian Church, 1711 Whiskey Road, Aiken SC 29803, and to Metavivor Research and Support 908 King Street, Suite 320 Alexandria, Virginia 22314.

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - Judith “Judy” Lee Talerico, 76, of Fairmont passed away on Saturday, October 05, 2024 at her home. She was born in Fairmont on September 14, 1948, a daughter of the late Thomas F. and Helen V. Thompson Rogers.
She was loving wife, mother, and homemaker. She graduated from Fairmont Senior High School Class of 1967. She was a member of the Fairmont Free Methodist Church.
She was an avid bowler, enjoyed ceramics and liked to travel. She was an angel enthusiast and collecting angels was her hobby. She most enjoyed the time spent with family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years Louis Talerico; two daughters Cheryl Yow and her husband Robert and Kathie Filler and her husband James Paul; four sisters Patty Bartholow, Karen Brock and her husband Steve; Jerry Burrows and her husband Butch, and Frances Kirkendall and her husband Kirk; four grandchildren Shelby Bailey and her husband Phillip, Harlee Yow, Kayla Filler, and Cheyenne Filler; four great grandchildren Jackson Yow, Addie Friend, Maddie Friend and Alena Litchfield; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Jack Thompson and a sister Betty Shaver.
The Talerico family would like to thank WVU Hospice and caregivers Kelly Waller, Kathie Filler, Kayla Filler and Desirea Santiago for the loving care they provided to Judy during a difficult time.

Sharon Kay Terry passed away peacefully in her childhood home on Monday, October 28, 2024. Born in Fairmont, WV on September 3, 1960, to David H. Brown Sr. and Reller Mae Eddins-Brown, she was the cherished daughter of Gwendolyn Sanders and Bobby A. Brown.
Sharon was a proud graduate of Fairmont Senior High School, and furthered her education at Marshall University, eventually earning her degree from Alderson Broaddus University. Throughout her life, her faith in God was steadfast, shaped by her early years at Morning Star Baptist Church, her spiritual growth at Miracle Revival Center, and her leadership at Agape Life Ministries.
Her dedication to the Lord shone brightly as she served as an usher, choir member, and most notably as the Church Administrator, maintaining order in the House of the Lord. But Sharon’s most heartfelt ministry was to her family and community. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother and “Nan”, a caring sister and aunt, and a considerate daughter and niece. Sharon was the kind of person who’d share a stick of butter, babysit for a few hours, or dig deep into a topic to help others understand better.
Sharon was predeceased by her parents and siblings, Glenn Moore and Selma “Sissy” Moore, along with many beloved aunts, uncles, and other family members. She is survived by her husband Dennis, her children Andrea and Nathan, and her grandchildren Journey, Reign, and Graeson, along with a plethora of extended family who meant the world to her.
Kenneth Powell, a dedicated husband, father, and retired teacher passed away unexpectedly on September 15, 2024.
Kenneth was born in Fairmont, WV on May 27,1956 to the late Mattie Lou Powell and Artis H. Powell Sr. He attended Fairmont Senior High School where he was the first African American senior class president. After high school he attended Fairmont State college where he obtained his Bachelors of Psychology degree. After college he married his high school sweetheart Deborah. Later they moved to Georgia to work for his uncle Johnny Mack Brown's car dealership. Kenneth was a dedicated teacher for the Houston County Board of Education for many years with his last assignment at Warner Robins Middle School from 1997-2018. After retirement he finally fulfilled his dream of going to to visit the islands. Kenneth loved music, collecting watches, and the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers.
Kenneth Powell was preceded in death by his father Artis H. Powell Sr; his mother, Mattie Lou Powell; his brother Rodney Neal Powell; his sister Mary Jo Fayoyin( Gabriel); and niece Marteena Powell.
He leaves loved ones to emulate his life, wife, Deborah; sons, Rashad Powell and Artis Powell (Teunna); daughter, Kenya Powell Terrell (Maurice); grandchildren, Keyshawn Powell, Emri Powell, Jordan Powell, Trenton Powell, Jaishaun Terrell, Destiny Powell, Kaedon Powell, and Aubree Powell; brothers, Artis H. Powell II (Ruth), Glenn Powell (Sissy); sister, Jacqueline Powell; nieces, Angela Powell, Alicia Powell (Shaughn), Tumbijika Powell, Tabitha Powell; nephews, Ashley Powell, Peter Powell, Andrew Powell, Artis Powell III, Michael Fayoyin, and Matthew Fayoyin.
Clyde Wallace Sypult, 83, of Fayetteville, WV, passed peacefully away on August 24, 2024. He was born on June 13, 1941, in Fairmont, WV to Clyde C. and Dorothy L. Sypult. Clyde grew up in Grant Town, WV, and graduated from Fairmont Senior High School, and attended Fairmont State College.
In 1962, Clyde moved to Alexandria, VA, where he began working at Frederick W. Berens in Washington, DC. It was there that he met his future wife, Norma "Peaches" Rider. The two married in Fairmont in 1963, later settling there and recently celebrating their 61st wedding anniversary. Clyde's career in the mining industry began as a superintendent with Consolidated Coal Corporation, where he became well-known for designing and building coal preparation plants across West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Indiana. In 1991, he returned to Fayetteville, WV, working for Amax Coal, and retired in 2010.
Clyde held a deep love for West Virginia, spending many years hunting deer and fishing for trout in its beautiful mountains and streams. He was proud of his "Almost Heaven" heritage and cherished singing campfire songs from Camp Thomas E. Lightfoot and listening to classic country music on his Alexa.
He is preceded in death by both parents; brother, Michael Sypult; stepmother, Helen Sypult; and niece, Tiffany Maxwell.
He is survived by his wife Peaches; daughters, Christina (Mark) Stach and Julie (Matthew) Soltis; grandchildren, Alex Stach, Katherine Stach, Ben Stach, Ethan Soltis (fiancé Briley), and Elizabeth Soltis; sister, Diane Schneider; brother, Craig (Lenise) Sypult; stepsiblings, Cathy (Terry) Maxwell and Cap Capet; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia in Clyde's memory at www.hospiceofsouthernwv.org. Clyde generously donated his body to the WVU Human Gift Registry. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
James Miller: Published by Ford Funeral Home - DeGarmo Chapel - Rivesville on Jul. 12, 2019.
James was born on July 15, 1989 and passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2019. James was a resident of Rivesville, West Virginia at the time of passing. He graduated with honors from Fairmont Senior High School and attended Fairmont State University. A private visitation and funeral service will be held for the family. The committal service will be held in the McCurdysville Cemetery.
John Allen Merrill, 68, class of 1973, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 07, 2024. He was born in Fairmont on September 12, 1955, a son of the late John E. and Louise A. Biafore Merrill.
John was a Christian by faith and worked as a machinist for Mundell’s and various other companies in the Fairmont area in his younger years. He last worked doing carpentry and construction work with his brother at Dave’s Contracting. He enjoyed flowers, gardening, fishing, and martial arts, especially Bruce Lee and his movies. John was a huge Elvis fan who enjoyed watching Elvis Impersonators and was an avid West Virginia University Mountaineer Fan. He was a loving, kind person who would do anything for anyone. Spending time with his family was his greatest joy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Cindy Rogers Merrill whom he married on August 27; one son Ryan Merrill; two daughters Courtney Merrill and her boyfriend Josh Linn and Kaitlin Robinson and her husband Joshua of Fairmont; one brother David Merrill and his wife Debbie; one sister Shirley Coyne and her husband Terry; two grandchildren Connor Hedrick, and Carlee Hedrick; one sister-in-law Crystal Gearhart; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Ray and Viola Rogers; one niece Monica Coyne; one brother-in-law Terry Gearhart.
In keeping with his wishes, the family has chosen direct cremation services, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family with these arrangements.

Golf: The 2023 Big 10 Champions earned honors for Landen Barkley, named Big 10 Player of the Year, and Caleb Young, Landen Barkley, and Tristan Wolford for earning 1st team All-Conference honors. As the Region 1 Class AA Team Champions the Polar Bear Golf Team shot 3 over par as a team with a score of 219 at Tygart Lake CC today. The qualifying scores were Caleb Young (-3 69), Landen Barkley (75), and Caden Musgrove (75). Competing on October 2 and 3 in the WVSSAC High School Golf Championship at Oglebay on the Jones Course, the Fairmont’s Senior Golf Team finished the season 3rd in the State in AA. Caleb Young finished 5th overall as an Individual and earned All-State honors. Caden Musgrove finished at 14 and Landen Barkley tied for 20th.

Coach DeNardi and two coaches who initiated a soccer program at West Fairmont Middle School, Andy Wharton and Ben Young, were honored between games vs. juggernaut Charleston Catholic recently. Wharton and Young were recognized first during the surprise ceremony. In 2018, the two of them led the effort to start the middle school soccer teams at West Fairmont. According to the ceremony script, provided to the Times West Virginian by Jennie Amos, Young coached the boys' team and Wharton coached the girls' team and recruited parents to start team boosters clubs.
SOCCER BOOSTERS: Major exciting news from the FSHS Soccer Boosters! We just had our project of providing permanent benches and covers to be installed at East-West Stadium given the green light by the BOE. This is a major expenditure, but we wanted to make sure we were doing something that would be a significant upgrade to the game-day experiences of our boys' and girls' soccer teams - as well as all teams who utilize EW Stadium. We are willing to make things better for others. But with that said, we're going to need the help of our parents and the community to support FSHS Soccer to help us rebuild our funds.

Honored graduate: Harold Chester Goodenough was born in Ohio in 1897 and came to Fairmont with his family in 1914 from Pennsylvania. His father, Chester Goodenough, was a foreman at Monongah Glass, known nationally for high-quality lead crystal stemware. At the age of 17, he died of Typhoid Fever and was buried at Woodlawn on November 13,1915. He was the oldest of four children.
He was a popular student at Fairmont High School, and a valued member of the football team. His obituary stated he was a ‘bright student who possessed a pleasing personality.’ He was considered ‘he most popular student at the school. Six classmates served as pallbearers: Hugh and Russell Meredith, Herbert Hamilton, James Knight, Albert Hostler, and Sidney Cramer. Services were held at the First Baptist Church, and he was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery.
After Harold’s death, the family relocated from the area and there was no gravestone placed. During one of the Woodlawn community events, his story was shared by a visitor. The Woodlawn board located the grave and donations were made to place a stone after 108 years. The board will conduct a formal dedication on Saturday, October 14th at Woodlawn at 11:30 a.m. The monument is located in the lower section of the historic district. The public is invited to attend.

It is with great sadness that I advise all those who love him of the passing of Mike Heffner, FSHS class of 1986, who died the morning of October 6, 2023. I shall remember his kind and loving spirit. His artistic and creative soul presented some of the most memorable classroom projects. Together with Jennifer Brumage as student body leaders, the “YES, Bears” slogan became a national campaign of positivity.
His family held an impromptu, open house celebration of Mike’s life on (10/6) at their home; 6-10 pm. Pizza, Salad, Beer, Wine.

Jeffrey Lynn “Lenny” Marra, 61, class of 1979, of Columbia, South Carolina formerly of Fairmont passed away peacefully on Friday, September 15, 2023, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania following a short illness. Lenny was born on September 21, 1961, in Fairmont son of Sandy and the late Sammy Marra.
Lenny was employed by MVAP Medical Supplies Inc. of Thousand Oaks, California as the Business Development Manager. Lenny loved his job and was the best at his position. Lenny was much respected and revered by his colleagues everywhere.
Lenny was the most wonderful and loving father, husband, son, son-in-law, brother, uncle, and friend. He was so kind, caring, and very generous. He had so many friends who adored him. Lenny was a show-up guy who always listened and offered great advice and support. He was always above and beyond involved in softball for his daughter Courtney and Cub Scouts for his son Tyler during their school years. Lenny was his father-in-law David L. Wimer’s personal IT guy. Lenny was in a class all to himself. He was simply a “cool guy”. He had the best style and the best demeanor. He even had a part in the 80s movie “Weekend at Bernie’s”. Lenny was a member of the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E 294 in Fairmont. Lenny was proud of his Italian heritage.
Lenny had a love of cars from an early age. He had a passion for the art of driving. He could work on cars like no other. He knew the history of cars and could instantly share the model and the year of a vehicle along with the details. Lenny enjoyed watching Formula 1 Racing on the weekends.
Lenny loved spending time with family and friends. Lenny had a love of music and good food. He enjoyed popcorn and dogs. Lenny had the most spectacular personality. He was magnetic and his sense of humor was loved by all. Lenny loved being outdoors and spending time at the beach and camping. He was a gun enthusiast.
Lenny is survived by his loving and adoring wife S. Michele Marra of Columbia, South Carolina, daughter Courtney Marra and Brandon Lopez of Columbia, South Carolina, son Tyler Marra and Aidan Baker of Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by his mother and stepfather Sandy and Bob Pasquariello of Columbia, South Carolina, and his brother Beau Pasquariello of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Lenny is also survived by his sisters-in-law Kimberly and husband DJ Rundle of Fairmont, Cathy and wife Leighanne Michael and Braylon Garcia, and beloved family dog Radley of Rivesville. He is also survived by his nephew Matthew Barrick of Fairmont and Haley Cosner and children Kloey and Lyric of Rivesville, niece Gabrielle and husband Andrew Snyder and great-niece Eleanor Jean Snyder of Morgantown, niece Avery Rundle and Daniel Robinson of Fairmont.
Lenny is also survived by other special family members Louis Marra of Fairmont, Michael Savonarola of Fairmont, and Clara Hendricks of Rivesville. He is also survived by lifelong friends Jeff Audia of Fairmont, Scott Reppert of Morgantown, and Eric and Ashley Gray of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.
In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his uncles Richard “Dickie” Marra and Anthony Marra and beloved maternal great-grandmother Rosie Waller.
A visitation will be held at Ross Funeral Home 801 Fairmont Avenue Fairmont on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Larry Buckland officiating.
The Fairmont Elks Lodge 294 will hold a ritual service at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Jamison Meredith Jr., originally from Fairmont, WVA, was a long-time resident of Stevensville, MD and later Centreville, MD. He and his wife Therese Meredith (deceased 2008) had one son, Alexander Jamison. A graduate of Amherst College, Jamison worked for Johns Hopkins University and later became a self-employed software developer in the construction industry. He and his wife, accompanied by their dog, enjoyed boating on the Chesapeake Bay and its many rivers and tributaries.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Annunciation Catholic Church, 3810 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, DC 20016.
Walter Eric Smith II, of Monongah, WV, passed away on July 23, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. He was born to Walter and Evelyn Smith on August 28, 1982.
Walter grew up in a small town which he loved. Walter graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 2000. He attended Fairmont State College and later enlisted in the US Army. Walter enjoyed playing basketball, video games, working out, and spending time with his friends.
Walter was preceded in death by his father, Walter Eric Smith, Sr.; paternal grandparents, Donald Waters and Mardell Smith; maternal grandparents, Samuel and Inez Washington; aunt, Sheri Luck; and nephew, Prince Stottlemire.
He is survived by his mother, Evelyn Smith of Fairmont, WV; two sisters, April Smith of Fairmont, WV, and Desiree Smith of Westminster, MD; one brother, Samuel Smith of Morgantown, WV; nieces, Aiyana Bellamy, Madison White, and Brooklynn White; nephews, Kayson White, Ashton White, Greyson White, and Avion Smith; aunts, Beverly (Robert) Stubbs of Fairmont, WV, Stephanie (Eric) Hines of Carolina, WV, LaDonna Smith of Carolina, WV, Charlotte Smith of Fairmont, WV, Serina (Tony) Givens of Fairmont, WV; uncles, William Washington of Fairmont, WV, Jake Smith of Fairmont, WV, Ricky Smith of Fairmont, WV; and a host of cousins, extended family, and friends.

(WV News) — Laura Lee Harki, 76, class of 1964, of Bridgeport, passed away holding hands with her loving husband of 56 years, Jim. She was born on October 2, 1946, in Fairmont, a daughter of the late Joe and June Nuzum Harry.
Laura was a 1964 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School. She spent the majority of her time working as a teller at Wesbanco Bank. Throughout her career, she also worked at Jones Department Store and WT Grants. Laura was an active member of Bridgeport United Methodist Church, where she assisted with the After -after-school program. She was also active in the Bridgeport United Methodist Women and Junior Women’s Club.
In addition to her husband, Laura is survived by her son, James Matthew (Lee Ann) Harki; two sisters, Rosalynd Harsh and Janine Hackenbracht, one brother-in-law, Ronald Alan (Debbie) Harki; and two granddaughters, Audrey Jean Harki and Abigail Grace Harki. She is also survived by 6 nieces and nephews, David, Joe, Dan, Michael, Andrea, and Brittany, as well as 11 great-nieces and nephews.
In her spare time, Laura served as a parent volunteer at Simpson Creek Elementary School and at the Clarksburg Kennel Club. She was a member of many organizations including Beta Sigma Phi, West Virginia Tracking Group. Foster Parent Harrison County Humane Society, and Foster Parent Seeing Eye Dog in Columbus, Ohio.

Kermit Jerome Smith, formerly of Fairmont, of Palmdale, Calif., class of 1971, passed away suddenly on May 30, 2006. Kermit was born May 18, 1953, in Fairmont, the youngest of five children of the late Matthew and Daisy Smith. The Church of God was first in the lives of the Smith family; thus, Kermit was christened at an early age and remained a member. During his sojourns at Miller Junior High and West Fairmont High Schools, Kermit was an outstanding athlete in basketball and became a member of the West Virginia All-State team, in addition to receiving several other awards. Upon graduation, he received a basketball scholarship to Allegheny College in Pittsburgh, Pa., and was later recruited by Modesto State College in Modesto, Calif. During his college years, Kermit did internships with Hughes Aircraft in Culver City, Calif.; he later joined the company full-time. In 1977, Kermit married Phyllis Gale Williams. This union was blessed with two children, Eric and Brandi. In 1981, he went to work for Coors Distributing in Pomona, Calif. From 1997 until currently, he was employed by Mission Beverage Company in Los Angeles, Calif. As a salesperson, supervisor, then category space manager at Mission Beverage, he received numerous awards for his outstanding service. In 1998, he married Jackie L. Brown and moved to Palmdale, Calif. Kermit’s passions were observing sports events, traveling, playing basketball and dominoes. In addition to being extremely witty, he had quite a flair for fashion. He loved to entertain in his home and was known among the Smith family and friends as the “King of Barbecue” for his fantastic barbecue skills. To celebrate his life and mourn his passing are his wife, Jackie; children, Mica L. Aaron-Cox (Jimmy) of Detroit, Mich., Eric Lamont Smith (Monique) of Pomona, Calif., and Brandi Marie Smith of Inglewood, Calif.; stepdaughter, Rachal Walker of Ames, Texas; grandchildren, Charvae, Jamal, Kourtenie, Marcella, Jenessa, Kylee, Taryn; stepgrandchildren, Danielle, Darrin, Dana; brothers, Donald L. Crystal "Sissy" Dawson Wolfe of Fairmont, class of 1978, passed away at St. Barbara's Memorial Nursing Home on June 10, 2023. She was born in Fairmont on January 21, 1960, daughter of the late William S. Dawson and B. Freda Dawson Whitecotton. She was also preceded in death by stepfather Jim Whitecottom and brother Bill Dawson. Crystal graduated from Fairmont Senior High School and attended Fairmont State. She is survived by her daughter, Tabitha Wolfe of Oregon, her brother, Jimmy Dawson of Fairmont her favorite sister-in-law, Cookie Dawson of Fairmont, fiancee Jim Richison of Nutter Fort, and several nieces and nephews. Crystal worked and retired from Rich Oil Company. She provided her customers with a Christmas feast yearly. She was a member of Benton's Ferry UMC, where she started Brunch with the Easter Bunny, which brings joy to many children yearly. Crystal was a member of Fairmont FOE 2373, Clarksburg FOE 2353, and Fairmont VFW 629. She proudly served as State Madam President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 2019-2020. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, and helping others. She never met a stranger. Crystal donated her body to the WVU Gift Registry, hoping that more could be learned about Multiple System Atrophy and its treatment. Pastor Jackie Chambers will preside at a Memorial Service on August 5, 2023 at 2:00 PM, at Pleasant Valley UMC, in Pleasant Valley, WV. Lu Ellen Witt Griffin, 93, class of 1945, of Wilmington died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, December 27, 2020. She was much loved and will be greatly missed. She was born November 15, 1927, in Van Lear, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Len L. and Dez Witt. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Charles Griffin; her seven siblings: brothers, James, Charles, Len and Bob and sisters, Anna Lee, Betty Jo and Peggy; a granddaughter, Lara Griffin; and an infant grandson, David Irvin.
Lu Ellen graduated from Fairmont High School in Fairmont, West Virginia in 1945 and then attended West Virginia University where she graduated in 1949 with a B.S. degree in Medical Technology. Lu Ellen was an excellent bridge player and loved puzzles and games. She was a good athlete and enjoyed playing golf and bowling. She was fond of craft projects and enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting, cross-stitch, and needle point. She used her craft talent to make many treasured gifts for family and friends. She was a prolific reader and fostered a love of reading with her children and grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and especially enjoyed making candy and cookies at Christmas time. She was also an avid baseball fan (Pirates!) and attended many games in person throughout her life. In her later years, she enjoyed trips to Florida for spring training.
Lu Ellen married John Charles Griffin on October 9, 1949. During their married life, they lived in many places due to promotions and transfers as John’s business career developed. Among the places they lived were towns in West Virginia; the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago; Toledo, Ohio and Charlotte, North Carolina. In each new place, Lu Ellen established a warm and inviting home, became active in her new church, volunteered in the community and made life-long friends. Following retirement in 1984, Lu and John moved to Lake Wylie, SC and built a wonderful retirement home. They loved to play golf together and to travel. They took many wonderful trips to Europe and around the United States. They enjoyed the beach and spent many happy times with family and friends at Cherry Grove Beach in South Carolina. In 2002 they moved to the Plantation Village community in Wilmington to be closer to family and the beach. Lu Ellen enjoyed the many close friends she knew there and happily made personalized cards on her computer for birthdays and special occasions. Unfortunately, John had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1994 and Lu Ellen became his devoted caregiver until his death in 2011 after 62 years of marriage. As a caregiver for John, she was a model of devotion and commitment.
Lu Ellen’s enduring legacy is that of a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She is survived by son Bill Griffin (Donna) of Valrico, FL; daughters Nancy Kilby (Eric) of Palatine, IL and Carol Irvin (Steve) of Kinston, NC; 13 grandchildren: John M. Griffin (Sara), Katie Kilby Moon (Sean), Charlie Kilby (Xingni), Hannah Irvin Boykin (Dom), Jackson Irvin (Jamie), Matt Irvin (Chelsea), Abby Irvin Yancey (Sam), Josiah Irvin (Diana), John Irvin, Mary Irvin, Joannah Irvin, Dan Irvin, and Becky Irvin Jordan (Tye); 12 great-children and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Lu Ellen was a Christian and she lived her faith. She served as a Deacon in the Presbyterian Church on numerous occasions and in various communities. In more recent years, she was a member of Wesleyan Chapel United Methodist Church in Wilmington. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of the Davis Health Care Community for their kindness and care during her time with them and to the Plantation Village community for their care and support during her seventeen years with them. A memorial service to celebrate Lu Ellen’s life and a graveside service at Sardis Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC will be held at a later date. Norma Jean Oliveto; 86, formerly of Fairmont, WV, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2023, from a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Oliveto Jr. and parents, Herman and Dorothy Pflock of Fairmont, WV. She is survived by 4 children: Merry Beth (Peter) Tacy of Ferndale, MI, Susan Dapkus (Chris) of Newborn, GA, Frank (Anne Marie) Oliveto of Osprey, FL & Carole(Cosmo) Servidio of Doylestown, PA as well as 2 grandchildren Olivia & Julian Servidio. She is also survived by sister Karen (James) Bosley of Venice, FL. She was a 1954 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and of Fairmont General Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. She was a lifelong member of Saint Peter The Fisherman Catholic Church in Fairmont, passionately involved as a lay Eucharistic Minister, making hand-made christening gowns and was a member of the St. Teresa's Guild. She moved to Sarasota permanently in 2016 to enjoy the beaches and weather.

Margaret "Peg" Kirkpatrick, class of 1943, passed away Friday, October 31, 2014 at the Gorham House in Gorham, Maine. Peg was born in Barrackville, West Virginia on April 9, 1925, the daughter of Earl and Mary Gower. She married Paul Kirkpatrick in 1947. They were married for 57 years and were the parents of three daughters. Peg attended West Virginia University and taught science at various schools of nursing. In 1961 Peg and Paul moved from Bridgeport, West Virginia to Sewickley, Pennsylvania, then on to Canton, Ohio where Peg served for 20 years as the Director of the Health Foundation for the United Way of Central Stark County. She led the development of a highly innovative K-12 health education curriculum that was used by many local school districts. During this time and throughout her life Peg remained very close to her family and lifelong friends in West Virginia who meant so much to her. In 1990 Peg and her husband retired to Higgins Beach in Scarborough, Maine and in 2004 they moved to the Gorham House. During the 10 years while Peg was a resident at the Gorham House, she created the Itsy Bitsy Store, which helps support the Gorham House Scholarship Fund. Peg was also honored with the "Remember Me" Award and shared in the Innovative Program Award both presented by the Maine Health Care Association. Peg was predeceased by her husband, Paul, her parents, two brothers, and a son-in-law, Donn Fryman. She is survived by her three daughters, Kathleen Fryman, Alpharetta GA, Catherine Moots (Mike), Jamestown, NY, and Gina D'Angelo (Bill), Cape Elizabeth, ME. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two nephews. The Hobbs Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Calling hours will not be observed. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 4th at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 299 Main Street, Gorham ME. A reception will follow at the church. Internment will be in the Riverside Memorial Cemetery, Cape Elizabeth, ME. Caleb A. Tarleton, class of 1954, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2022. Born in Fairmont, WV on October 23, 1936 to Arban and Helen Tarleton, youngest of 3 sons. He graduated with a BSME from WVU in 1959. Caleb proudly served in the US Army from 1959-1967, departed his career as a Captain. He worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Johnson Controls from 1959-1999. He was an active member of the NW Hobie Cat Association Fleet 95 and Sail Sand Point Sail Sand Point. Caleb loved cheering on his children and grandchildren at sporting and school events. He loved family travels, including snow skiing trips, cherished visits to Maui with family and close friends and the annual 4th of July family picnic in WV.
Survived by his brother, Jim Tarleton, son Tom (Cassie) and children Daniel and Darby. His daughter Nancy Glass (Steve), and children Kristina and Rachel, and a loving network of extended family and friends.
Preceded in death by his loving wife Margaret of 56 years, parents Arban and Helen Tarleton, brother Bill, and sister-in-law Mimi Tarleton.
Caleb and his wife Margaret will be joined together for eternity at Tahoma National Cemetery at a future date with full military honors.
Jeaneen Rexrode, class of 1963, 78, of Fairmont, class of 1963, passed away on July 13th, 2023, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Jeaneen was born July 12th, 1945, a daughter to James Kincell and Betty Klingensmith.
Jeaneen loved baking, playing cards, watching Jeopardy and spending quality time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Jeaneen is preceded in death by a son Michael Rexrode, a grandchild Zaela Snedegar, a sister Debbie Miller, brothers and their spouses Tim and Nancy Kincell, David and Tina Kincell, and Larry and Kathy Kincell.
She is survived by a son Gene L Rexrode II (Mandy) of Fairmont, sisters Margie Winegarden and Mary Gordon-Parker of Mississippi, grandchildren Kerensa Larew of Morgantown, Ryland Rexrode and Briell Rexrode both of Fairmont, and one great-grandchild Braelynn Gifford.
According to her wishes, she will be cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held on August 12th, 2023, at 1:00 pm at the VFW on Morgantown Ave officiated by Pastor Larry Kincell
Joan Kane Hardie, 83, class of 1957, passed away peacefully in her Bradenton, Florida home on May 25, 2023. "Joanie" to her family, she was born on December 6, 1939 to Helen Shoesmith Kane and Paul Lewis Kane of Columbus, Ohio. She never ceased to resent her original middle name Paulette and changed it legally at her first opportunity, presaging a career-long refusal to be defined by men in her male-dominated profession. After the family welcomed another child, Suzie, they relocated to Fairmont, West Virginia, where Joan was a talented ballet dancer and majorette, and performed in a choral group at Fairmont Senior High School. She adored the family cat Miss Blue, the first of many pet cats that she would treasure. She also discovered a love for fashion and cooking, particularly Italian food. Joan attended Stevens College in Columbia, Missouri, and in 1962, graduated from Michigan State University with a B.S. degree in retail science. When an early employer bought its first computer system, she joined their brand new Systems & Programming department, developing internal applications and becoming part of the first generation of commercial data analysts using data modeling. Joan found the work fascinating, making a career in the field as a database administrator and database architect, working for several companies including Amoco and Nielsen before her eventual 2005 retirement. In her twenties, Joan continued to challenge herself by enrolling in night classes, studying trigonometry and calculus for fun. She liked the Beatles, but preferred classical music; her fab four were Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and Vivaldi. Sean Connery's James Bond films sparked her lifelong interest in spy movies. Then living in Pittsburgh, Joan turned to one of the earliest computer dating services for help finding a partner. Jim Hardie started off their first date well by taking her out for Italian food. They fell in love and married in 1971 on the University of Pittsburgh campus, with Suzie as Joan's maid of honor after Joan had been hers. In 1978, Joan and Jim had one child, Scott. The family relocated to Chicago and then Washington before finally settling in St. Charles, Illinois, where they eventually built their dream home, a Southern-style ranch house on a quiet lot by the river. Joan decorated the home with her favorite Portmeirion housewares and poinsettia flowers. She enjoyed cooking new recipes whenever she could, but the dining table was often covered by one of her jigsaw puzzles in progress. When she couldn't enlist her husband or son to play one of her favorite games like Scrabble, Mastermind, or chess, she would use her computer to play solitaire or Tetris. After Jim passed away suddenly in 1997, Joan decided to relocate to Sarasota, Florida, close to where she had vacationed many times. There, she happily lived in close proximity to her son and lifelong friends, enjoying nature documentaries and ballet performances. Joan took up playing in bridge clubs around Sarasota. At one of them, she met fellow retiree Andy Perkins and discovered a mutual attraction on their first date at Sarasota's Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in 2007. They shared their lives from that day forward, vacationing together, living together, and seeing each other daily. Joan's final years were affected by a decline in her health, but they were as full of love, laughter, and joy as the rest of her life. Joan is survived by her longtime partner Andy Perkins, her son Scott (Kelly) Hardie, her sister Suzie (Pete) Pignetti, her niece Lisa (Todd) Murnan, and her nephew Tripp (Danietta) Pignetti. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Freedom Village of Bradenton for their care and dedication in recent years. Valinda Marie Tagg, 68, of Fairmont, class of 1972, entered the arms of Jesus when her soul departed this world on May 25th, 2023 at the home of her sister and best friend, Kathy. She was surrounded by those she loved most, including both of her dear sons. She fought against an aggressive disease, ALS and came out victorious as she crossed into eternity, healed and home in Heaven. Valinda was born June 14, 1954, in Fairmont, WV, a daughter of the late Lawrence Nelson and Virginia L. Dillow Gross.
Valinda had resided in other states across the country during her time in the service but made her true home among the hills of West Virginia where she was raised. After she graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1972 she joined our armed services as a member of The United States Navy. She was proud to be a veteran and grateful for the provision of care the VA Hospital had provided from the time of her diagnosis to its final progressive stages during her final days. Including her motorized scooter, she was delighted to find out she could have made in her favorite color-purple. To know Valinda was a privilege and honor for her family and friends but she could bring spunk, laughter and joy anywhere she went, gracing those who knew her and acquaintances alike with quick-witted comebacks and sassy one-liners. Her humor was one of the best facets of her personality and her greatest weapon against the disease she fought. She never lost it or her joy even when the ALS tried to steal so much from her. Her strength will be remembered by everyone who witnessed her fight.
Over the years she had worked for various local businesses including Dr. Columbo in the dental service and Sayboy’s Restaurant as a server. But her longstanding place as a server and part of original employees at Dutchman’s Daughter in Whitehall for over 28 years is where she found another family among her coworkers. When the ALS progressed, with great strength and determination, she would come to work, even for half a shift, to be with her work family making them smile and laugh with her spunky sass. She was loved by her customers. Many regulars, who would only sit in her bottom section, knew they would be well taken care of with a little teasing thrown in for free.
She was famous far and wide but especially at the restaurant as, “The Fudge Lady” making the best peanut butter, chocolate walnut and butterscotch fudge around. Her bags of fruity and cinnamon hardtack candy never lasted long by the register either. She frequented many of the local craft shows with her sweet treats and hand-crafted creations. She had a following of faithful followers who greatly anticipated each chance to procure her fudge and place orders for the holidays.
When Dutchman’s Daughter hosted a Spaghetti Fundraiser for Valinda in March, the response and turnout was overwhelming. It proved to her just how much she meant to her customers and the community. Friends and family joined to celebrate her with an early birthday celebration in April with everything purple. Despite being so tired and worn, she danced full of life to “Purple Rain” in her purple chair. She sat surrounded by love as everyone sang her “Happy Birthday”, not knowing she would be spending her birthday in Heaven this year.
Valinda found Jesus during her time here and accepted Him as her Savior. He became even more dear to her towards the end of her journey, knowing she would be joining Him soon. Her unwavering strength in the face of the adversity she faced no doubt came from her faith in her Creator to heal her, this side of Heaven or in His arms. She gave her loved ones a blessing, giving them the comfort in knowing to whom her heart belonged and where she would spend eternity. She recently celebrated her faith by being baptized at the home of her sister.
Valinda is survived by her sons who were her greatest joy, Chad F. and his wife Chivon Tagg, and Chip B Tagg, both of Fairmont. And was a proud “Nan” to her grandchildren, Lucas and Logan Tagg whom she cherished; her sister and best friend, Kathy A. Cain and her fiancé Jack Rutherford of Fairmont; and her deeply loved brothers Kenneth L Gross of Fairmont, Michael L and his wife Linda Gross of Surry, VA, and William E. and his wife Lisa Gross if Fairmont. She is also survived by her close friends, Dana Garlow, Lana Hess, and Mary Lauderback: as well as the father of her children, Franklin B. and his wife Lorrie Tagg.
In addition to her parents, Valinda was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Debra Gross.
The family would like to thank WV Caring Hospice and The VA Hospital for providing excellent and attentive care during her battle with ALS. And a special, heartfelt thank you to her personal caretakers, Charlene Moats, Brandy Runion, and Laurinda McCoy. You helped make the last days with her as unburdened as possible so we could spend our time loving her.

She was born November 10, 1949, in Morgantown, a daughter of Lynn and Margaret Wotring Neely.
Brenda was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. Brenda was active with the Magnolia High School Band Boosters, served as a "Den Mother", and was very active at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, in New Martinsville West Virginia.
She also was an active member of the Washington Presbyterian Church in America.
On April 4, 1970, she married her husband, Warder Ernest Smith, who survives.
Also surviving are her son, Nathan Andrew, of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; her brother, Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Neely, of Morgantown, West Virginia; niece, Lauren Neely, nephew, Grant (Audrey) Neely.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends will be received Thursday, 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, in Sollon Funeral and Cremation Services, LTD, 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, Phillip L. Sollon, supervisor, 724-746-1000.

Mary Jo Powell-Fayoyin, class of 1969, was born on September 23, 1951 to Mr. Artis H. Powell Sr. and Mattie Lou Powell in Fairmont, West Virginia. She was an honor graduate of Fairmont Senior High School Class of 1969. She received her Bachelors of Science degree in Library Science from Fairmont State University later matriculating to receive her Masters of Library Science degree from the University of North Carolina. Mrs. Fayoyin found her love for the “Pink and Green” and became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) sorority while at Fairmont State University.
It was also at Fairmont State where Mrs. Fayoyin met her college sweetheart and life-long love, her husband, Gabriel Fayoyin. Out of their matrimony and marital bliss, produced two sons. Dean Fayoyin was a wonderful loving and doting wife, mother, sister, auntie, grandmother, leader, educator, and mentor.
Her love for her students was the drive that ushered and adorned her over 44 years of success in education.
Dean Fayoyin’s dynamic journey of academia started at the library system of Fairmont State University with many years there to craft her plethora of skill sets. This magnificent journey also included her very successful Directorial and Board of Regents acclaimed leadership at Waycross College. It was from there Dean Fayoyin landed at the venerable Historical Black College and University of Savannah State University where she became Dean of Library Services. Her tenured 21 years of lauded leadership yielded numerous awards and accolades along the way. Dean Fayoyin’s professional career featured her as a recipient of the “I Love My Librarian Award” by the American Library Association; the 2017 Presidential Medallion, recognized by the Savannah State University National Alumni Association; the Minority Advising Program Administrator of the Year by the University System of Georgia and the Johnnie Ruth Clarke Award for Excellence in Administration from the National Council of Black American Affairs. Her lauded leadership also includes various state and national grants, programs, and publications. Dean Fayoyin’s wondrous works have helped transform the Asa H. Gordon Library into a competitive model and beacon of pride for Savannah State University. Her admirable and dedicated service has made Dean Fayoyin a pillar and integral part of her community.

Timothy S. “Tim” Cutlip, 55, of Bridgeport, WV and formally Fairmont, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He was born in Fairmont on December 5, 1967, a son of Harry and Jeanette Cutlip of Elkins.
Tim was a 1986 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School. He loved getting together with his classmates and was still the “class clown.”
Tim married his high school sweetheart, Barbara “Fritz” Thorne Cutlip on May 26, 1990. He is also survived by two brothers: Mike Cutlip (Chris) of Jane Lew, and Steve Cutlip of Fairmont; four sisters-in-law that he loved as sisters: Nick Conrad (Sonnyman) of Rivesville, Penny Blackshire of Barrackville, Lori Tennant (John) of Barrackville, and Wendy Cutlip Parks of Fairmont; his nieces and nephews that he loved as his own: Matt Cutlip of Rosemont, Michael Rus of Bridgeport, Ashley Lewis (Hunter) of Fairmont, Adam Cutlip of Barrackville, Brandon Conrad (Amber) of Rivesville, Gabbi Conrad of Rivesville, Les Blackshire of Fairmont, KK Toothman (Billy) of Barrackville, Haley Swiger (Karl) of Barrackville, and Sammi Tennant of Barrackville; great nieces and nephews: Sierra, Lilly, Von, Locklin, and Gracelin Cutlip, Ariel “Nug” Toothman, Gracie Swiger, and Presley Conrad; and his friends Katybug Gibson “Gibby,” and Jennifer Lewis (Dewayne) and their daughter Bristol who he considered his adopted daughters. Tim worked at Swansons Plating and Babcock Lumber. He was co-owner of Fritz’s Rugrats and all the kids loved “Mr. Tim.” Tim loved Bud Light, music and writing songs, guns, and Harleys.

Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born in Wallace, WV on October 27, 1927, a daughter of the late Rev. Dr. J. William Bonner and Ovah B. Bonner.
She is survived by her sister, June Eddy of Fairmont, two daughters-in-law, Kathleen Nigh of Fairmont and Rebecca Nigh of Parkersburg, four grandchildren, Jessica A. Hickman (J.T.) of Parkersburg, John C. Nigh (Mandi) of Fairmont, Emily A. Nigh of Raleigh, North Carolina, and James H. Nigh (Kelee) of Parkersburg. She is also survived by great grandchildren, Mitchell, Macey, Phillip, and Cecelia, step great grandchildren, Brady and Taylor, step great great grandchild, Delayney, her niece and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ernestine was preceded in death by her husband, David M. Nigh, two sons Mark D. Nigh and John A. Nigh, a brother, John Bonner, great granddaughter, Julia K. Nigh, and a nephew, John W. Bonner.
She was raised in Bridgeport before moving to Fairmont where she attended Fairmont High School. Later she graduated from Fairmont State College.
Those who knew Ernestine would describe her as exceptionally intelligent, strong, creative, and opinionated, and as an unconditionally loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend. Ernestine was a Christian by faith and loved being active in church. Raised as the daughter of a preacher, her faith in God was very important to her, and got her through many difficult times throughout her life. Ernestine enjoyed working as a teacher, musician, and as a tax preparer. She helped many people in her community with their businesses and taxes for well over 60 years. She was extremely talented at playing the piano and organ. She served as the organist of the Baptist Temple for many years, and at home, was always filling her house with music for her children and grandchildren.
Undoubtedly, her most valued role in life, was being a mother and grandmother. Ernestine was affectionately known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as Mamam. Her grandchildren will always treasure the time they had with her, as she made everyday things fun, and created games to play on the spot.

He was the son of the late Lester Z. Tennant and Lyda May Hays Tennant.
He was born in Rymer, WV and graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1956 and West Virginia University in 1967 with a BS Degree in Forestry.
John spent his career involved in the industry of forestry in Georgia and Mississippi.
He was active in the Lions, Rotary and Choctaw County Economical Development Planning and various advisory committees. He was a volunteer fireman.
He enjoyed flying, farm management and fixing things. He always said he could fix anything if he had the right tools. John was active in his church, singing in the Choir, Sunday School Teaching and cooking for Men's Prayer Breakfast. He served the Lord whole heartedly.
John is survived by his wife Carole Glover Tennant; his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Cathy Tennant; daughter and son-in law Leslie and Cory Burton; son-in-law Tom King.

Bruce Frank Phillips, 82, of North Carolina, class of 1958, died on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at his home. Born in Marion County, WV, he was the son of the late Virgil Frank Phillips and Lucy Virginia Coleman Phillips. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his children: Gina Wright and Kimball Wright.
Mr. Phillips served in the United States Air Force and was of the Methodist faith. He retired from GTE in 1985. After, retirement he worked at Duke University Student Bookstore and retired in 2000. He was an avid NASCAR and Duke Basketball fan.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Ann Harden Phillips of North Carolina; one sister, Laura Ellen Tribbie of Virginia Beach, VA; niece and nephew: Allison Johnson (Danny) and Scott Tribbie (Kathy); great nieces and great nephews: Chase Johnson, Taryn Clark (Mike), Philip Tribbie and Kara Tribbie; great-great nephews, Daxton and Kyler Clark; cousin, Mikuel Ann Parrish; three children: Lisa Tate (Roger), Misti Tolley (Ron) and Jeanne Howell; five grandchildren: Holly Howell, Josh Wallace, Piper Wallace, Emily "Em" Moore and Gina Wright; two great-grandchildren: Blaire Wallace and Julia Wallace.
Honoring Mr. Phillips wishes, no services will be held at this time.
David James Herron, class of 1998 passed away suddenly on Monday, July 10th, 2023, from Cardiopulmonary Arrest. He was born August 6, 1980, in Charleston, West Virginia. He graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1998.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather Jane and Andrew Noshagya whom he lived with in Baxter, West Virginia, his father and stepmother, James and Deena Herron from Bridgeport, West Virginia, a brother, John Matthew Herron from Bradenton, Florida, and a son Noah Samuel Herron of West Virginia, close friends, Jadie Johnson and Seth Racer as well as several cousins.
A graveside service will be held at Nuzum Cemetery with Pastor Sheldon Nickerson officiating.

Patti Romino Vasicek, class of 1961, ran into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ whom she loved with all her heart, her soul, and her strength (Deuteronomy 6:5) on July 7, 2023. Patti was born in Fairmont on May 20, 1943. She was the youngest daughter of the late Dr. Leonard A. Romino and the late Jeanette Pacifico Romino. From a young age, her family attended church, and she loved learning about Jesus. At a crusade in Pittsburgh, she became born again (John 3:3). Later, following the second bout with lung cancer, God miraculously healed her, and she committed her life to loving and serving Him and others all of her days.
Patti is survived by her beloved husband, Richard J. Vasicek whom she married on June 13, 1964. She is also survived by a daughter, Renae Lynn Fox and her husband Joe of Pittsburgh and a son, Richard E. Vasicek and his wife Dee Dee of Whitehall. Her surviving grandchildren are Hannah Mariah Lucas and husband, Tyler of Fairmont; Easton Andrew Jimmie of Morgantown; Hope Jordan Vasicek of Fairmont; Noah Richard Vasicek of Fairmont; and Gabriel Andrew Jimmie of Fairmont. Adding to the overwhelming joy of grandchildren are the surviving great-grandchildren: Esther Grace Lucas, Ruth Arianna Lucas, Ava Marie Jimmie, Zayden Andrew Jimmie, and Zander Jace Jimmie. Also surviving is her Aunt Mary Romino of Fairmont; sisters, Josephine Hamrick and Caroline Janicki of Charleston; sisters-in-law, Jeanie and her husband Harry Stewart of Rivesville and Judy Romino Bailey and her husband Steve of Florida. Treasured by her and close to her heart were her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Patti loved her Trinity church family and serving Jesus with them by the power of the Holy Spirit.
In addition to her parents, Patti was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Edward Vasicek; mother-in-law Evelyn Vasicek; three brothers, Michael Romino, Leonard Romino II, and Robert Romino; sister-in-law, Joyce A. Romino and her former son in law Criss A. Jimmie. Her Celebration of Life service will be held at Trinity Assembly of God on Tuesday, July 11th at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Union Rescue Mission and/or the Pregnancy Resource Center. Friends may attend the visitation at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. A private family burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Whitehall.

Science Honorary, under the able leadership of Michelle Henderson Bright with Leann Sayre, orchestrated a Spring Fling initiative during which they cleaned the campus and planted dozens of hydrangea bushes along the steps between the main campus and the Freshman Building. That should provide a breathtakingly beautiful addition to the campus when the blue blossoms appear. President Maddie Aubrey planned the project finding the supplies and prices and wrote the proposal for Principal Green’s approval. Almost the whole club was involved in beautifying the mural on the side steps, cleaning up the flower beds in front of the freshman building, and planting flowers and removing a very stubborn tree. Restoration and Beautification: Since all 1,000 copies of “Voices of Fairmont Senior High School” have been sold, Linda Orr Morgan and Carol Amos hope to restart the initiative to restore/repair the iconic features of the front gateposts, the bridge, and the stone engraving as well as initiate a memorial garden with native plants of red buds and rhododendron, perhaps utilizing a walkway with an opportunity to honor individuals with engraved names of graduates. Congratulations to Ava McMullen who represented FSHS at the state Poetry Out Loud competition in Charleston. After reciting three poems, Ava made it into the top ten for Division II.
Congratulations to Brazz Evans IV who won third place in the annual Scottish Rite Essay Contest! He wrote an essay about Americanism that was selected from juniors and seniors all over NCWV. He won a cash award for himself and one for Fairmont Senior!

Members of the 1960 FSHS state championship wrestling team, Joe Staud, 1960 State Champ, and Tom Burnett, 1960 &1961 State Champ, visited the school for a celebration assembly for our 2023 state championship wrestling team. We had 3 individual state champs in Jason Walker (126), Hunter Spitznogle (138), and Kolbie Hamilton (144). This is Kolbie’s 2nd state championship and this is our first team championship since 1960. Head coach Michael Fortier was also named AA state coach of the year!
SOCCER: Calling all soccer parents! We are holding the Booster Meeting on Tuesday, May 16th at 6PM. We will hold elections for a couple of open positions as well as make some plans for the 2023 year. (Elected officers please plan to stick around for a brief meeting following the full boosters meeting.) As always, bring ideas and help spread the word! FYI: This meeting is open to parents of all returning players and the parents of incoming freshmen/new players. We will be electing: Secretary, Boys VP, and potentially Girls VP (1 year term to fill the remainder of the term). Coach Jeff plans to meet with parents after the organizational meeting.
Baseball: Finished the regular season 21-4, named 2023 Big X Conference Baseball Champions, and earned the #1 seed in AA Region 1, Section 1 playoffs. Seniors Gunner Riley, Matt Howvalt, and Jaden Halterman provided leadership for a strong season after finishing as state runners-up last year. OBITUARIES

John D. Tennant Jr., 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 2, 2023, in the same house where he was born on June 10, 1928, at the family farm in Fairview. Between those two milestones, his influence was felt far and wide by thousands of students and teachers during his 32-year career in education.
John was the son of the late John D. and Ethel Dawson Tennant. His prodigious memories included gathering around a family radio powered by a car battery to listen to the election of Franklin Roosevelt, as well as a school assembly in the 8th grade when the President declared war on Japan in 1941.
Also, as an 8th-grade lad, John rode his bicycle three miles to school, arriving early to study for the West Virginia Golden Horseshoe test. His dedication paid off as he won the coveted award, representing Marion County in 1942.
During his early years of high school, because his family’s farm was considered necessary to the war effort, John could only attend school two days per week and contribute to farm work the rest of the time. He graduated in 1946 from Fairview High School.
John earned his BS from Fairmont State College in 1954 after his education was interrupted again by war. He served three years as a lieutenant in the Army as a tank commander in the Korean War.
John wed the late Rose Mary Brunetti Tennant on April 11, 1955.
Beginning his career in Marion County education John served as a teacher at Fairview HS and later a counselor and vice principal at Barrackville High School in 1955. Encouraged by his esteemed principal and mentor, Larney Gump, to pursue educational leadership, John earned a master’s degree in Guidance Counseling and then another in School Administration, all while working full-time, farming, and raising a family.
A favorite story of this period, shortly after Brown vs. BOE, was that after winning a basketball tournament, the BHS team needed a place to eat. The Palace Restaurant in Fairmont didn’t want to serve the Black basketball players except in the kitchen. Because John had known the staff since he was a youngster selling eggs there with his dad, when he insisted that all players eat together, they complied and made room in the front for everyone.
He then worked as vice and head principal at Mannington High School from 1970 to 1974. During his one-year stint as Director of Personnel at the Marion County BOE, he interviewed a young football coach looking for work and recommended Nick Saban for hire. Saban later chose to stay at Kent State.
In 1976 John became the principal at Fairmont Senior High School where he was appreciated and respected by the teachers for his consistent leadership and visionary work. He was particularly proud of instituting a special education program with specialist Sally Feltz which taught hundreds of previously underserved students to read.
Mr. Tennant was an early adopter of technology and computers in the classroom and strongly supported the arts and humanities, as well as sports. He loved portraying Shakespeare during the school’s Elizabethan Festival. The renowned Madrigal Chamber Choir was formed under Doug Bunner, the marching band under Barry Vingle appeared in Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, and Mr. Tennant advocated for theater and educational student travel programs during his tenure. In 1985 FSHS was named a School of Excellence.
Retiring in 1989, John returned full-time to his love of farming, enjoying grandchildren, traveling with Rose Mary, and watching WVU sports. He was the third-generation owner of farms designated as West Virginia Century Farms, having been worked by the same family for 100 years.
John is survived by children Chris Tennant, Steve (Sharon) Tennant, Catherine (Tony) Drown, Tim (Kimberly) Tennant of Fairview, Jonathan Tennant of Kingwood, David (Joni) Tennant of Fairview, and Natalie (Erik Wells) Tennant of Charleston, and brother-in-law Frank (Martha) Brunetti of Salem, 15 grandchildren, Kayla Tennant (Andi Burke), Stephenie (Wilford) Phenice, Justin (Haleigh) Tennant, Shawn (Megan) Tennant, Eliza Drown, Matthew (Wittlee Retton) Tennant, Tyler (Isabella Nutter) Tennant, Johnny (Ruby Fierros Espino) Drown, Peter Drown, Christian Drown, Sarah (Michael Bunch) Tennant, Delaney Wells, Triton Tennant (Cheyenne Stewart), Eva Tennant, Thaddeus Tennant and 8 great-grandchildren, Avery Tennant, Luke Tennant, Audrey Tennant, Isaiah Drown, Mattie Jo Tennant, Wyatt Phenice, Wade Tennant, Eli Bunch and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Marguerite Wilson and Fern Lloyd, and brother Beryl Tennant.
Friends may call at Ross Funeral Home, 801 Fairmont Ave., Fairmont, on Sunday, March 12 from 1-7 p.m. The funeral will be Monday, March 13, at the St. Paul’s Baptist Church, 403 Main Street, Fairview, where he was a lifelong member and deacon. The family will receive visitors at 10 am with the funeral at 11 am. A private interment service will follow at a later time.

Prentiss Charles Snyder, 79, of Fairmont passed away early Saturday morning April 1, 2023, at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown, after a 20-year battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was born on September 17, 1943, in Morgantown, son of the late Prentiss John and Mary Elizabeth Miller Snyder.
Charles began his teaching career in Portsmouth Ohio. He retired from the Marion County Board of Education as a teacher after 35 years of service at Fairmont Senior High School. At Fairmont Senior, he served as the girls’ cross-country coach for 20 years. During his time as the coach, they won several state championships. He also served as the coach of the chess team.
Charles was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church and previously served as a Eucharistic minister. He was a 1st-degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He also served on the Fairmont Catholic School board. He graduated from Kingwood High School in 1961, Glenville State College in 1968, and had two master’s degrees from West Virginia University. He participated in the Rock Steady Boxing Program. His hard work in this program was instrumental in maintaining his quality of life with Parkinson's.
Charles is survived by his wife Donna Taylor Snyder, three children Teresa (Theodore) Zanardelli of Columbus, Ohio, Monica (Tige) Pratt of Manassas, Virginia, and Philip Charles (Darah) Snyder of Crown City, Ohio. He is also survived by his grandchildren Tia Snyder, Dylan and Cooper Snyder, Vito Zanardelli, and great-granddaughter Clara.
He is also survived by three brothers Donald (Diane) Snyder, Roger Snyder, Guy (Barbara) Snyder, sister-in-law Marsha Snyder and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Ronald Snyder.
Friends will be received on Monday from 1-7:00 p.m. at Ross Funeral Home, 801 Fairmont Avenue, Fairmont. The Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday April 4, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Konikattil as celebrant. Interment will follow at Ravenswood Cemetery in Ravenswood, WV.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the American Parkinson Disease Association or The Parkinson’s Foundation.
Joe Colasessano, 69, of Fairmont was called home on Wednesday, February 15th, 2023 with his loving family and friends by his side. Son of the late John “Spider” and Josephine (Colaciello) Colasessano.
He was a 1971 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School. Upon graduation, he attended trade school in Charleston, WV. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1972 during the Vietnam Conflict. After serving his country for 18 months, he received an honorable discharge due to his father’s passing. He returned home to run his family’s business with his mother.
He was a hard-working, honest, and successful businessman who left so many in our town with memorial of a terrific product and many memories “in the back room.”
He is survived by his loving wife, his true angel on Earth for nearly 37 years, Carol (DiVirgilio) Colasessano; his biggest pride and joy, his daughters, Victoria (Justin) Hershman of Fairmont and Rachel (Bradley) Dodrill of Grafton; also surviving are his five precious grandchildren, Joey and Julian Hershman and Henry, Lucy, and Teddy Dodrill. He is also survived by his sister, Donna (David) Wells of Fairmont and a special niece, Cara (Jonathan) Loper of Dallas, TX. He is also survived by an aunt and uncle Felix and Karen Colaciello of Brandywine, MD; and many special cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his in-laws, Eugene and Lucy DiVirgilio.

David L. Wimer, 80 of Fairmont passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Gaurdian Healthcare in Fairmont. He was born in Fairmont on August 1, 1942 son of the late Harold D. and W. Maxine Hood Wimer.
David started his career as a fireman for the City of Fairmont on July 16, 1969 and quickly moved up through the ranks as a Lieutenant, Captain and then retired as the Fire Chief on January 8, 2000, a position he held for 20 years. And he graduated from Fairmont State College in 1976.
He was a devoted husband, son, father, grandfather and newly great-grandfather. David so loved his family as they meant everything to him and he meant everything to his family.
He loved driving his car especially in the fresh snow. He was an avid fan of the Corvette and enjoyed watching the Barrett Jackson Auto Auction. He also loved his time being on his computer and researching Ancestry.com.
He also enjoyed watching football, NASCAR, Netflix, listening to music with Lynyrd Skynyrd a new music favorite.
A favorite pastime was boat rides with his family. He loved being on the water with hot dogs to eat. He enjoyed participating in his grandson Matthew’s boxing career where he went on to become a Certified Boxing Coach, Referee and Judge.
David was a one of kind. He was always there for his family and friends and he made a big impression on all who met him.
David is survived by his three daughters; Sandra Michele Wimer Marra and husband Lenny of Columbia, South Carolina, Kimberly Jo Rundle and husband DJ of Fairmont and Cathy Lynn Michael and wife Leighanne Michael of Rivesville.
He is also survived by his grandchildren who he loved; Matthew Barrick and girlfriend Haley Cosner and her children Kloey and Lyric, Gabrielle and husband Andrew Snyder, Avery Rundle, Courtney Marra, Tyler Marra, Braylon Garcia, great-granddaughter Eleanor “Ellie Jean” Snyder, and his beloved granddog Radley.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his loving wife of over 50 years Sandra Jean Hearn Wimer, and one brother Jim Colvin.

Dr. Paul Ronald Graziani of Fairmont, WV and Bonita Springs, FL, passed away on December, 27, 2022. Dr. Graziani was born to Paul Frank Graziani and Betty Jane (Spadafore) Graziani on May 28, 1948 in Fairmont, WV.
Dr. Graziani is a 1966 graduate from Fairmont Senior High School and 1970 graduate from Fairmont State College. He continued his education at West Virginia University to obtain his Doctorate of Dental Surgery Degree in 1974.
Dr. Graziani started his career in dentistry as a Captain in the U.S. Airforce at Nellis Airforce Base in Las, Vegas, NV, home of The Thunderbirds, from 1974-1976. In 1976 he came home to Fairmont, WV where he opened his dental practice. He served his community from 1976-2016 when he retired.
Dr. Graziani enjoyed spending winters in Bonita Springs, Florida at Palmira Golf and Country Club. He was a member of the Golf Club, played pickleball, and regularly attended Men's Fellowship meetings.
In addition to his education, loving family, and wonderful life experienced, he had many achievements. As a youth he reached the honor of Eagle Scout. He was a proud member of Tau Beta Iota Fraternity and rarely missed the annual reunion. In his young adult years, you could find him on the softball field with his famous "Docs Bombers" or playing pickup basketball. Golf eventually became his game, and he could always be found on a course. He took pride
in his community and was a member of many organizations including: MonValley Dental Society, West Virginia and American Dental Association.
Dr. Paul Ronald Graziani is survived by a big, beautiful family which includes his loving wife of 36 years, Cheryl Pearl Graziani; son, Dr. Stephen Paul (Marie) Graziani; daughters, Dr. Caroline Graziani (Charlie) Labritz and Briena Pearl Graziani; grandsons, Brayden Paul Graziani, Brock William Graziani, Charles Patrick Labritz, Ronald Anthony Labritz; brother, Robert (Cheryl) Graziani of Bentonville, Arkansas. Also surviving are many special nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins.
Dr. Graziani was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Frank Graziani and Betty Jane (Spadafore) Graziani; brother, Donald Joseph Graziani.
Dr. Graziani has chosen cremation as his final disposition. Barbara Jean Antulov, 76, of Benton's Ferry/Fairmont died Sunday afternoon February 5, 2023, at Mon General Hospital, Morgantown, WV after battling cancer for nearly 20 years. She was born in Fairmont on October 9, 1946, daughter of the late Harvey and Pauline Staggers. She was the eldest of three daughters and was a natural caretaker. She married her soulmate, John Martin in 1971 and they were blessed with one daughter, Jacquelyn Renee.
Barbara retired from Fairmont General Hospital/Fairmont Regional Medical Center with over forty years of service in the Radiology department where she specialized in the CT and Heart Cath labs. She met thousands of patients, always with a smile and positive outlook on life. Barbara developed lifelong friendship with her coworkers who became like family. She graduated from Fairmont Senior High School, class of 1965, and always enjoyed reunions with her classmates. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Watson. As many know, she loved to paint and spent much of her free time in her sunroom with a glass of wine working on her newest painting. Her home was her gallery, and she would happily give anyone who was willing to listen a tour or open her home for lessons. Sundays were times dedicated to a small group of friends, "The Positive Strokes," where a day of painting and camaraderie occurred regularly.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jacquelyn Renee and Steven Hammond of Barrackville, and her grandchildren, Angelina and Nicholas. She is also survived by two sisters and their spouses, Shirley and Robert Stiles and Linda and Richard Eddy both of Morgantown. In addition, she is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-laws: Pete Antulov (Stephanie Wilson), Steve and Gladys Antulov all of Fairmont, Thomas and Rosemary of Monongah and Janie Antulov of Lewisburg, PA and several nieces, their spouses and children. As well as, her dear friend and neighbor, John Terlosky of Farimont, who was her companion following her husband's passing. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, John Martin Antulov.

Joseph “Josie” Asterino of Fairmont passed away on a quiet, beautiful Sunday morning, February 12, 2023. He was born on August 13, 1947 to Sam Asterino “Knockie” and Helen Rose Pizatella Asterino. Joseph was being preciously cared for in his last few weeks by family and friends, and died exactly where he wanted, his Watson home. When he looked out his window, he could see visions of all of his happy memories from his childhood: his grandparents' old home, his family home where he was raised, and many other houses that held loving relatives and friends who have all gone now.
Joe grew up in Watson and never lived more than a mile from his childhood home for his 75 years. He played baseball on the Watson School ball field every day that he could put his brother Johnny in charge of his chores, which was a lot. As a young boy, he was a proud member of a Watson club called KIBO. He successfully wrestled in high school, was a member of TBI Fraternity while he attended Fairmont State, and then served in the National Guard with longtime friend Billy Julian. Joe and Billy also co-captained Walters Construction team, a fast pitch softball team. He married Marianna in 1972, became dad to Tommy Baron, and Brandi came along in 1975. He bought Tarleton Buick in 1982, which he renamed Astro Buick Olds Pontiac GMC. He starred as the “Astroman” in his commercials through the 1980s, coming out of the rocket that stood atop the dealership (though once it ended up under the bridge as a prank by some young kids). In the early ‘90s he successfully moved the dealership to the Whitehall area and renamed it Astro’s at Exit 132, where he owned it until 2019.
He contributed to countless community groups over the years, including the Disability Action Center in Fairmont; he also sponsored various youth baseball teams. Though raised Catholic, he eventually developed strong ties to Trinity Assembly of God, where his wife attended. Joseph was also a Charter Member of Pete Dye Golf Club.
As most know, he was an amazing man who was so good. He was so good at loving other people and was such a wise teacher too. He was humble, patient, funny, and silly. He was caring, thoughtful, and spiritual. Though many knew him as the owner of a dealership, still countless others knew him as a friend, a counselor, an advisor, a comedian, and a helper. He lived to help others in need.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Marianna Julian Asterino; his two children Brandi (Chris Capobianco) Asterino, Tommy (Cessna) Baron; his siblings, twin sister Judy (Gary) Lusher, and sister Barbara (Rick) Skinner; grandchildren Jade Baron, Lakyn Baron, Delila Powell, and Ava Capobianco; several nieces and nephews Chris (Ladawn) Weaver, Tracey Weaver, Toni Asterino, Tammy Asterino, Trina Asterino, Tiffany Hill, Chad (Irene) Poniewasz, Tasha (Alex) Stack, and Heidi Skinner.
He is preceded in death by his parents Sam Asterino “Knockie” and Helen Rose Pizatella Asterino; sister Deanna (Eugene) Weaver; brother Johnny (Diane) Asterino.

Nancy Ann Moore, 88 of Fairmont WV passed to her heavenly home on Sunday, May 7, 2023. Nancy was the daughter of the late Russell and Blanche Moore.
Nancy graduated from Fairmont Senior high school in 1953 and soon thereafter went to work at the Local C&P Telephone Company as an operator. Nancy’s working career lasted for over 40 years.
Nancy and her co-worker friends traveled to Myrtle Beach, SC for an annual gals fun time vacation for several years. Nancy also enjoyed yearly trips to Florida with her mother and other family members. They loved collecting shells on the beach and going to the local thrift shops. Even in her more recent years Nancy continued her trips to Florida. She would put her favorite religious CD’s in to play and down the road she went always with the Lord as her co-pilot.
Nancy loved traveling to Amish country many times with her sister Mary Lea and her nieces. What fun times were had shopping, eating, laughing, and playing cards. She always had a favorite saying when she was asked if she would like some more food or coffee. Her reply was always “Just a little bit.”
Family was so important to Nancy. She loved all the dinners, picnics, weddings, and birthdays. Nancy for years gave all her family members inspirational calendars at Christmas to guide them through the days of the next year.
Nancy was a member of the Janes Memorial Church for many years. She loved her church and her church family. She was a member of the Janes Memorial Women’s Ministry. She had such a grand time with her lady friends when they would all go for ice cream.
Nancy is survived by her sister Mary Lea Mundell of Fairmont, sister in law Lucille Moore of Fairmont, niece Donna (Gene) Faulkner of Fairmont, their children Gene (Kim) Faulkner, Jr. and Mary Jo ( Brian) Fleming, niece Cathy (Randy) Underwood of Martinsburg, and their daughter Elizabeth Ann ( David) Keadle, niece Vickie (Richard) Davis of Fairmont, niece Becky (Kenny) Mackey of Fairmont and their daughters Amanda ( Brian) Hawkins and Melissa ( Anthony) Bellott, niece Vickie Moore of Fairmont and her daughter Mariah, nephew Timothy (Kristie) Moore of Jane Lew and children. Nancy is also survived by many great great nieces and nephews.
Nancy was preceded in death by her brother Rex Moore and her nephews Kevin Moore and Ronnie and his wife Brenda Moore.

Marilyn (Piscitelli) Ice, 67, of Fairmont, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 17, 1956, in Fairmont, a daughter of the late Frank and Eula Armontrout Piscitelli.
She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Robert “Bob” Ice.
Mrs. Ice was a graduate from Fairmont Senior High School. Upon graduating, she attended Fairmont State College, where she obtained an associate degree. She also attended Alderson Broadus University, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Nathan Ice of Fairmont, and Jason (Brianna) Ice of Morgantown; one sister, Marlene (Bob) Morris; two grandchildren, Henry and Caroline Ice; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She worked as a registered nurse at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Care Management.
In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, counted cross stitching, antiquing, and traveling in the motor home. She found great joy in spending time with her family. She loved her grandkids and was an amazing wife, mom, grandmother, and friend to all.

Anthony (Tony) Joseph Camele, 96, of Fairmont, WV, passed peacefully on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. Tony was born on October 2, 1926, in Fairmont, WV, the son of the late Louis and Rose LoFiego Camele. Tony was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-seven years, Teresa Marie Mazza Camele. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Fairmont.
Tony is survived by his children Dr. Anthony Camele (Jenny Ann), Dr. Robert Camele (Susan), and Jo Ellen Mick (Ruben), and grandchildren Natalie Buckley (Sean), Anna Tugwell (James), Mary Jarrell (Jeremy), Ryan Mick (Elizabeth), Gina Hedrick (Nicholas), and Elizabeth Camele. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren – Anthony, Camille, Teresa, Samuel, Patrick, Luke, Elise, Clara, Margot, and Lena, and a sister, Carmela Saporito.
Tony graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1944. He then served in the United States Army and was stationed in the Philippines during the World War II Era. After his military service, he graduated from Fairmont State College in 1950 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He worked in sales and management for several companies including Union Brokerage, Workingman Store, Galis, and FMC. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Tony was a gifted musician who played clarinet and saxophone in local dance bands of the 1950s and 1960s including the Johnny Christian Orchestra, Doc Koon and the West Virginians, and the United Mine Workers Band. He and his sons played in the Greater Clarksburg Symphonic Orchestra. Tony enjoyed spending time with his family, telling stories, and eating good Italian food and Woody’s hot dogs.

William Carlisle Wade II, known to all as Lisle, left this world February 22, 2023, at the age of 84 after a short battle with cancer.
Lisle began his journey December 21, 1938, in Fairmont, West Virginia as eldest son to William Carlisle and Eleanor Wade. His mother was a devoted homemaker while his father was a rising executive with Monongahela Power Company until his untimely death at the age of fifty-two. Growing up with his younger brother Frank and little sister Janie, Lisle lived with his family on top of a hill on Peacock Lane (the name derived from a farm established by his great-great-grandfather in the 1830's).
Lisle and his siblings built many special memories while spending time with their grandparents who lived in nearby Marlinton. Lisle learned then that he had construction in his genes as his great-grandfather had built a significant portion of the town of Marlinton, including the county courthouse.
As President of his senior class, Lisle graduated from West Fairmont HS in 1956, and subsequently attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute (now Virginia Tech) his freshman year of college. After transferring to West Virginia University his sophomore year, he graduated in 1960 at the top of his class with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Lisle joined Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and was a member of the infamous Goose House Gang. Upon graduation when he told by his professors he wanted to be in sales, they told him he was essentially "…throwing away his degree!"
He began his career with E.G. Smith, a manufacturer of commercial building materials, as a Sales Engineer. Over the course of a long, successful career, he lived in Atlanta, Cincinnati, Dallas, Chicago, Memphis, and Pittsburgh where, as VP of Sales, he opened numerous sales offices and expanded the firm's presence overseas with projects in London and Saudi Arabia. A new opportunity with Moncrief Lenoir brought him to Houston where he once again excelled.
In 1988, he founded Wade Architectural Systems with his son Bill. Together with his son-in-law Peter, they grew the company to include six sales offices in four states touching almost 5000 commercial projects.
Lisle was married twice and blessed with two children, son Bill and daughter Brycie, from his marriage to his first wife, Holly Fear Wade, whom he married in college. They were married for 23 years. In 1986, he met and married the love of his life, Margaret. They enjoyed 36 exciting years together with Lisle helping raise his two stepchildren, Steve, and Stacey Kirk.
Lisle and Margaret loved to travel, and their incredible journeys took them literally all over the world. Their penchant for travel took them to all 7 continents and 70 countries.
Lisle was also active in his community, serving for many years elected to the board of Harris County MUD District 151 and was very active at Kingwood and Atascocita Country Clubs, including serving on the Board of Governors. If Lisle wasn't traveling or at the office, you would probably find him with friends on a tennis court, golf course, or playing poker with his buddies or duplicate bridge. Lisle loved his work, doing business with friends, peanut butter, ice cream and good bourbon.
Lisle is preceded in death by his sister Libbie Jane Wade, and survived by his wife Margaret Wade, his son William Carlisle Wade III (wife Christy), his daughter Brycie Wade Parnham (husband Peter), stepchildren Steve Kirk (wife Chriztine), and Stacey Kirk, granddaughters Kylie Wade Vernegaard (husband Kirk), McKinley Wade, Tristan Parnham, grandson Beck Parnham, and Carson Kirk, and great-grandson William Wade Vernegaard. He also leaves his dear brother, Dr .Francis Wade (wife Kerry), better known as Uncle Frank.
Lisle was a true gentleman with an incredible mind, quick wit, and unbending ethics that made him truly one of a kind. His friends and family will remember his boundless energy, his indomitable spirit, his easy laughter, his sense of humor, and his enormous zest for living. He will be greatly missed by so many.

Patricia (Patti) Nixon Connor, 89, of White Hall, peacefully passed from this Earth on early Sunday morning, March 19th. She was born November 22, 1933 to Robert Earl Nixon and Mary Evans Byers.
She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Pat Connor, whom she married on December 23rd, 1961; her parents; brothers, June Nixon, Bill Nixon, Jack Nixon; and a sister, Mary Joan Nixon.
She is survived by her three daughters, Mary Pat (Tom) Reese of Fairmont, Betty (Larry) Bargeloh of Marietta, OH, and Cyndi (Mike) Drummond of Spring, TX.; five grandchildren, Tom (Lori) Reese, Brandon (Steph Stevers) Bargeloh, Stella Bargeloh, Connor Bargeloh, and Caitlin (Damone Wills) Drummond; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a Christian by faith, a wife, a mother, and a grandmother. She was a long-time school teacher, 4-H leader of the Eldora 4-H Club. Patti was also a WV 4-H All-Star, and member of the Camp Mar-Mac Board of Trustees.
After retirement she was very active in CEOS, Life Long Learners and United Methodist Women. She was an avid fan of WVU Sports and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Robert Eugene (Bob) Cavallo, 85, died on October 5, 2022 in Indialantic, Florida.
Bob was born in Fairmont on August 4, 1937, the third son of Carmen F. and Lucy (Guarascio) Cavallo of Virginia Avenue.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, Franklin L. and John F., as well as his nephew John Cavallo and sister-in-law, Dolores Cavallo.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Susanne; sister-in-law Jane Cavallo; niece Terri Cavallo; nephews Carmen and David Cavallo. He is also survived by many cousins, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and life-long Fairmont friends.
Bob was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School, and after completing a degree in Physics from West Virginia University, relocated to New York City, where he was employed for many years as a technical/informational writer for General Instruments. Upon his retirement, he returned to Fairmont to care for his parents. After their passing, he met and married Susanne, and they lived in Fairmont until relocating to Florida in 2019.
During his time in Fairmont, he was an active member of the community, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, participating in the Fairmont Senior High School Foundation, and the Knights of Columbus. He and Susanne both enjoyed gardening and both were active members of the Master Gardeners of Marion County.
Bob was a devoted husband, a loving and generous brother, brother-in-law, and uncle, and a loyal family member to cousins and extended family. As the family's unofficial historian, he dedicated many hours to researching and recording the family's genealogy and annotating family photos. As part of his most recent project, he reconnected with many extended family.
He treasured his Italian-American heritage and delighted in keeping the family's Calabrian traditions alive by hosting family gatherings at his parents' house on Virginia Avenue and later in Florida. He was always ready for a family celebration, a FSHS KIBO reunion, or a WVU football game.
The family will host a Memorial Service/ Celebration of Life on Saturday December 10, 2022. The family will received friends from 12 Noon till 12:30 followed by the Service at Ross Funeral Home 801 Fairmont Avenue Fairmont.

David Matthew Buretz, 68, of Fairmont passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023, at his home. He was born in Fairmont on October 28, 1954, a son of the late Leo and Pauline Slamick Buretz.
David is survived by his son, Jedidiah Buretz; grandchild, Abby Buretz Hutchinson; sister, Barbara Buretz DeChristopher; and special friend, Amber Rowell.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife, Terry Corwin Buretz.
David was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and a member of Saint Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church. He enjoyed trout fishing, camping and hunting.
The family requests memorial contributions be made in David’s memory to Pet Helpers, 726 East Park Ave., PMB 311, Fairmont, WV 26554.

Robert "Bob" Lee Davis, 82, died peacefully on March 12, 2023 at his home in Brookeville, MD surrounded by his beloved family. He was born in Fairmont, WV on April 24, 1940 to Sidney and Mary (Colebank) Davis.
He was the younger brother of Edward Davis. Bob graduated from Fairmont Senior High School where he excelled as a student and athlete. He attended Fairmont State University where he was a member of the collegiate golf team and Tau Beta Iota social fraternity, where he formed lifelong friendships. He went on to serve with the US Navy aboard the U.S.S. Orion from 1960-1962.
On August 5, 1961 Bob married the love of his life, Lilly Ann Majetic of Barrackville, WV. They raised four children together and were happily married for 45 years. Over the years, Bob worked at US Steel Irvin Works and then became a proud owner of the Antique Rifle Works, Inc.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman and played golf through his retirement years. Bob's other pastimes over his lifetime included building and competing with flintlock rifles, building computer systems from scratch, playing poker and visiting with friends at the AMVETS.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Lilly, and his brother, Edward.
He is survived by his 4 children, Katherine (Tim), Jennifer (Greg), Andrew (Azadeh) and Elizabeth (Shannon), his grandchildren Joseph and Lilly Comello; Rebecca, Theresa, Christopher and Stephen Billman; Cameron Davis and Joshua McWhorter and one niece, Darlene Davis Tuthill.
Family & friends will be received at the Ross Funeral Home 801 Fairmont Avenue Fairmont on Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Cemetery with full Military honors.

Kyle Ryan Slish, 47, of Catasauqua, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023 in Lehigh Valley Hospital - Muhlenberg. Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of Beverly Werkheiser and the late Joseph J. Slish Jr., who passed in 2017. A graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and Kutztown University, Kyle worked in sales much of his life last working for RCN Cable Co. Kyle, enjoyed traveling and music and had attended over 200 concerts in his lifetime and especially enjoyed the Grateful Dead.
Survivors: In addition to his mother Beverly, he is survived by his brother, Kevin Slish (Brooke) of Saylorsburg; sister, Kristi Wells (Michael) of West Virginia; 5 nieces and nephews and 2 great nieces and a nephew.
Services: Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Saturday, April 1st., from 9:30 -11:00 A.M. followed by a service of remembrance at 11:00 A.M. all from the JAMES FUNERAL HOME, 527 Center St., Bethlehem. Cremation will be private following the services.
Frank Jesse “Jay” Workman Jr, 74, of Fairmont, WV fought a long hard battle with multiple forms of cancer. On April 17, 2023, God decided he had fought long enough and took him home.
He was one of four children born to Frank Jesse Workman, Sr, and Birdie Simpson Wood Workman. He attended Fairmont Senior High School and began working for Monongahela Power while still in high school where he graduated in 1967. He retired from Mon Power after 30 plus years of service. Over the years, he performed many duties for the company but one of his favorite jobs was running large equipment like dozers and backhoes often in precarious locations that would make many say no way! In his younger days, he also worked evenings and weekends driving wrecker for Herb Hawkins and then later for Ralph Haymond at Haymond’s Wrecker Service. He loved to go camping and owned multiple campers and motor homes over the years. He and Annie attended many NASCAR races and tailgated at WVU football games in their motorhomes with friends. He was an auxiliary member in the Fairmont VFW. They were also very active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles in both West Virginia and Florida, where they spent many winters as snowbirds.
He loved family traditions, all of which always seemed to revolve around food! He was always asking what the next meal was going to be before the current one was even finished! The family has often joked that his hobby was eating!
One of his favorite places to be, was with his buddies in “the Breakfast Club” at Mom’s restaurant for breakfast every morning where they would sit for a couple hours swapping stories and shooting the bull!
He is survived by his sister, Carol Workman Grimes (Michael) of Fairmont, Daughters, Debbie (John) Cooper of Boothsville and Donna Hess (Homer) of Fairmont. Sons, Eddie Workman of Fairmont, and Edward Roche (Karen) of Florida. Granddaughters, Regina Robinson Heston of Fairmont, Abby Cooper of Cheat Lake, Raelene Kosey, and Laura McKinney. Grandsons, John “JJ” Cooper Jr of Boothsville, Joseph (Holly) Hess, Michael Hess, Homer (Jenny) Hess of Fairmont and Edward Roche IV. The mother of his children Nancy (Lake) Workman Valentine of Fairmont. As well as several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, older brother Taylor “Bum” Workman and younger sister, Cathy Workman as well as his companion of 44 years, Ann “Annie” Mundy, and daughter Cindy (Tom) Conrad as well as his best buddy Russell Davis.
The family would like to thank his oncologist, Dr Osman and our nurse navigator, Amber, for providing compassion along with his care. They are the best! We were always kept informed and having a link to a nurse navigator made the rough times we experienced more bearable. We’d also like to thank the staff at Guardian South Side 200 hall. The decision to move him to a nursing home was a difficult one but the staff treated him (and us) like family. We recognize it takes special people to provide the care patients need. We’d like to say a special thank you to CNA, Jenny. You are an angel on earth! Dad’s short stay was made so much easier by having the best roommate! Anthony “Junior” Basile, we couldn’t have hand picked a better one ourselves! We will not forget you! You’re an honorary family member now!

Sandi Lee King Scarpino, 38, of Bradenton, Florida, passed away on January 4, 2023. She is proceeded in death by her grandmother, Laura Lee King, her grandfather, Charles King, and her cousin, Adam King. Sandi was born in Fairmont, West Virginia on July 1, 1984. She leaves behind six children, Johnny, Ricky, Khloe, Mikey, Lucia and Gemma. She is survived by her loving husband of 7 years, Rocco Scarpino, parents Mark King and step-mother Lori Shaw King of The Villages, FL and Lisa Bartholow Hafer and step-father John Hafer of Frostburg, MD. She is also survived by her grandmother, Sandra Menefee of Fairmont, WV, sister, Heather Tipton and husband Eric of Jacksonville, nephew, Dorian Smith and niece Gabriella Tipton, and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. In her younger years, Sandi loved gymnastics and growing up next to the Tygart Valley River in Fairmont, WV. She attended Fairmont Senior High School, worked as a CNA for many years, helped in her family restaurant, and was an avid gardener. She loved trips to Disney, visiting the beach, and her service dog, Biscotto. Sandi also chose to be an organ donor. Mildred “Diane” (Bice) Bombard, 73, of Everson, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born in Fairmont, January 26, 1948, daughter of Helen Bice Wilmoth and the late Ward Bice, Jr. of Fairmont.
Diane was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Monongah and recently enjoyed services at the Everson Baptist Church. Over her years, she was involved with the church as a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and assisted in numerous dinners and fundraising events.
Diane was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and worked at Westinghouse/Phillips for 25 years. Diane was an excellent cook and baker and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends who especially loved her blackberry pie. She loved her yearly trips to Amish country in Berlin, OH, as well as her monthly luncheons with Carolyn “Mandi” Keener and her old high school friends. Diane also enjoyed time spent with her sister-in-law, Alice McDougal and family. Diane described Jimmie and Erica Garrett and family, who adopted her loveable dog, Sadie, as “the best neighbors she could ever ask for.”
In addition to her father, Diane was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Charles Robert “Bob” Bombard.
Diane is survived by her mother, Helen Bice Wilmoth of Pleasant Valley; her brother and his family, Bill and Barbara Bice. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews, who always put a smile on her face.
Her niece, Desiree Bombard, cared for her in her last several years of life and was with her in passing. The family gives her and everyone else who cared for Diane their greatest gratitude.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 25, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Friday, February 26, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, WV. Norma Jean Oliveto, 86, of Sarasota, FL (formerly of Fairmont, WV) passed away peacefully on March 10, 2023 from a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Oliveto Jr. and parents, Herman and Dorothy Pflock of Fairmont, WV. She is survived by four children: Merry Beth (Peter) Tacy of Ferndale, MI, Susan Oliveto (Chris) of Newborn, GA, Frank (Anne Marie) Oliveto of Osprey, FL and Carole (Cosmo) Servidio of Doylestown, PA as well as two grandchildren Olivia and Julian Servidio. She is also survived by sister Karen (James) Bosley of Venice, FL. She was a 1954 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and of Fairmont General Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. She was a life long member of Saint Peter The Fisherman Catholic Church in Fairmont. She was passionately involved in the church. She served as Lay Eucharistic Minister, made beautiful hand-made christening gowns, and was a member of the St. Teresa's Guild. She moved to Sarasota permanently in 2016 to enjoy the beaches and weather.

Karen Sue Thompson “Susie”, 74, of Fairmont passed away Thursday, January 19th, 2023, at WVU Fairmont Regional Hospital. She was born October 21st, 1948, in Fairmont, WV, daughter of Pete and Loris Garrison.
Susie was a member of the Everlasting Covenant Church in Fairmont. She loved crafting, drawing, fishing, gardening, and her dogs.
She is survived by her two children, Kevin Stingo and his wife Libby of Buckhannon, Jennifer Sloan and husband Tom of Fairmont; four siblings Gladys Berry, Pete Garrison and wife Susie, Trudy Puccio and husband Larry, and Josie Kolek and husband Kris; six grandchildren Brandon Stingo, Britni Bonner and husband Michael, Ben Stingo and wife Jerrica, Emily Stingo, Courtney Morris and husband Aaron, and Justin Sloan; and 5 great-grandchildren Jayce, Izzy, Xavier, Sloane, and Braxton. Susie also leaves behind three very special friends, Sandy, Pat, and Rick who helped her through this difficult time. She was preceded in death by her spouse Kenneth Brooks Thompson as well as her former husband Eugene “Skip” Stingo.
The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, from 3:00p.m.-7:00p.m. on Wednesday, January 25th. Raymond P. Jones, Jr., 69, of Hepzibah, passed this life October 22, 2022 at United Hospital Center. He was born August 20, 1953 in Fairmont, a son of the late Raymond P. and Patricia A. Jones.
Raymond attended Barnes School, graduated from Fairmont Senior High School, and attended and graduated from A.W.C. in Salem, OH, where he became an ordained minister. He retired from Barbarton Steel, Inc. and was a Veteran of the United States Coast Guard in Akron, OH.
In addition to her parents, Raymond is preceded in death by two sons, Daniel L. and David W. Jones.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Goch Jones; his mother-in-law, Norma Goch; a son, Steven and Crystal Jones; grandchildren, Madie, Abigayle, Makala, Ethan and Jeremiah Jones, Zach and Casse Jones, Alysha and Daniel Jones, Jr, Ashton and Abby Brown, and David Jones, Jr.; great grandchildren, Alexandria Jones and Ezekiel Jones; siblings, Jennifer Jones of Hepzibah, David and Regina Jones of Worthington, WV, Bill and Tammy Jones of Princeton, Terri and Bob Layman of Bellview, and Jon and Cherry Jones of Tunnelton; maternal aunt, Nancy Haldeman; paternal aunts, Betty Jones and Nola Palamino; and several nieces and nephews.
Allen Kendall Jones died at home on November 3, 2021, surrounded by his beloved wife, Donna Flatch Jones; son, Jeff Jones; and dearest friends, Taia and Gary. His friends and loved ones were a comfort to him as he struggled with pancreatic cancer.
Allen was born on December 17, 1947 in Fairmont, West Virginia to Celia Marie Hall and John Paul Jones. Though Allen spent most of his adult life in Silicon Valley and Sonoma, California, he was constantly mindful of his remarkable childhood in mid-century West Virginia; especially his adventures around the family property, known locally as The Hilltop.
Allen's conservation-minded family loved the beauty of nature and managed their land accordingly, balancing preservation of habitat with productivity. Allen credited his mother, Marie, a founding member of the West Virginia Nature Conservancy chapter, with instilling in him a lifelong commitment to environmental concerns. Later in life he combined an engineer's fact-based perspective with a persistence in his volunteer efforts. Never one to shy away from a challenge, he raised awareness of global climate change, strived to reduce his personal carbon footprint, promoted regional land conservation, and managed efficient water systems for his community. It was with special pride that Allen continued to champion his family's stewardship of many acres of old growth Appalachian forest. His perseverance culminated in deeding this land to the West Virginia Land Trust in honor of his mother.
His was a close-knit extended family. He was devoted to his brother John, sixteen years his elder, following in his footsteps to Cornell University, where they both earned degrees in chemical engineering. Allen later earned his MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
The curiosity, rigor, writing skills, and intelligence Allen brought to bear during his education continued to serve him throughout a successful career. He rose to the position of Vice President and Treasurer (later VP and Controller) at Varian, one of the founding companies of Silicon Valley. He later served as Chief Financial Officer of two startups, and helped to take a company public.
Allen's marriage to Donna in 1991 was the great joy of his life. After retiring in 2000, he relished working alongside her to design and build their own hilltop home in California's wine country. There, he again exercised his inquisitive spirit, and perseverance to maintain their house and land. Allen had an adventurous streak. He fueled his zeal for new horizons by exercising regularly, working outdoors, and cherishing world travel with his wife. He was an avid back-packer and skier, sharing memorable trips with his two sisters, their families, and his son.
His intelligence, humor, hard work, kindness, and excellence with the written word will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Allen is predeceased by his parents and his brother John. He is survived by his wife Donna, his son Jeffrey Allen Jones and stepson Richard Rodgers, daughters-in-law Alicia Morrison Jones and Tammy Wright, sisters Cynthia Marie Springer and Nancy Annara Homeyer, brother-in-law William Homeyer and his grandchildren Alexis, Ransom, Dominic, Oliver and Nikolai. He was predeceased also by his gentle and friendly Lab, Duke of Earl.
Peggy Sue Eddy, 52, of Fairmont, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023 in Fairmont surrounded by her family. She was born on October 5, 1970 in Fairmont, a daughter of John T. Satterfield, Sr. and Krystal Stalnaker Satterfield.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 26 years, James Eddy, whom she married on November 23, 1996
Peggy is also survived by her son, Austin Eddy and her daughter, Abigayle Eddy; one brother, John Thomas Satterfield, Jr. and his wife Rhonda and one sister, Christina Moales and her husband Jacob; one nephew, John Moales and one niece, Aurelia Moales; brother-in-law Rich Eddy and his wife Pearl; and her sister-in-law, Debbie Eddy; and many nieces and nephews from the Eddy family.
Peggy was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School class of 1988. She was a daycare operator for 16 years, where she touched the lives of many children along the years. She was the nursery director at Central United Methodist Church, where she was also a long-time member. She worked at Say Boys Restaurant with dear friends. Peggy was a teacher's aide MCBE.
The family wishes to thank the Doctors and Nurses at UHC and Encompass Health for their excellent care at a difficult time.
